ACNE MYTHS

Myth #1.. Acne is caused by poor hygiene. If you believe this myth, and wash your skin hard and frequently, you can actually make your acne worse. Acne is not caused by dirt or surface skin oils.

Myth #2.. Diet does matter. After years of thinking diet doesn't play a role in acne, recent research indicates certain foods like dairy products, simple carbohydrates like soda and fruit juices and certain oils may play an important contributing role to acne.

Myth #3.. Stress doesn't cause acne. Research has identified receptors for certain stress hormones in the hair follicles and oil glands. These receptors may also be activated by other hormones linking stress with "hormonal acne."

Myth #4.. Rosacea is "adult acne." While the exact causes of Rosacea are not yet worked out, it is definitely different then true acne.
