Buy your support hose and make sure you bring them the day of the treatment

 

Avoid applying moisturizers to your legs for 24 hours before sclerotherapy

Avoid shaving for 24-48 hours prior to sclerotherapy

 

Bring a pair of loose-fitting slacks to wear after the treatment to cover any cotton balls or dressings

**AVOID ASPIRIN, ASPIRIN-CONTAINING MEDICATIONS (such as cold or allergy meds), IBUPROFEN (same thing as Motrin), ALCOHOL, GARLIC CAPSULES, AND VITAMIN E CAPSULES for several days prior to sclerotherapy.All of these are blood thinners and may result in increase bruising and decreased effectiveness of the treatment.

TYLENOL IS THE ONLY THING OK TO TAKE FOR PAIN THE WEEK BEFORE SCLEROTHERAPY. If you have to take aspirin or ibuprofen that week please call the office, you may have to be rescheduled.

 

Inform us if you start any new medications prior to treatment

You will need to go for a 15-30 minute walk right after your treatment.We may ask you to return for a quick check right after your walk.

That evening before getting into bed remove your hose and then the cotton balls

Please walk as much as possible for the first 2-3 days.Every day you should walk at least 15 minutes two times per day.No running or weight lifting for at least one week after sclerotherapy

If you have any discomfort, Tylenol is okay, but you should avoid aspirin and any of the blood thinners listed above for several days after treatment.

Avoid standing still and sitting for prolonged periods for several days.Also avoid hot baths and sunbathing for several weeks

You should wear the compression hose for at least seven days after each treatment.If possible it is always a good idea to wear the hose as much as possible in the time between sessions as well.

Sometimes the treated vein becomes darker in color and lumpy. Call us at (512) 302-4047 if you develop this lumpiness.It is nothing to worry about but we do need to drain those areas to prevent discoloration/hyperpigmentation

Avoid long car rides (longer than 2-3 hours), or plane trips (longer than 2-3 hours) for 1 week after the procedure.
